Whilst at the same time fulfilling Java's promise of running everywhere, Linux, Windows, Mac, even the Pi.Iedere wordfile bevat 1 taal. #Ultraedit lua codeWhich as it happens is built on Electron and written in Javascript.Īmazingly VS Code is a lot slicker in operation than those sluggish old Java based editors, Eclipse and InteliJ. I have been using all kind of editors since the late 1970's only to arrive on my current favorite, Microsoft's Visual Studio Code. That is what the Electron platform by Github is. That is to say, write your application as a desktop application that happens to uses web rendering standards, HTML, CSS, SVG, JS etc. Applications accessed through browsers are the closest we have to that currently.Ī little step up from that is to forget the browser part of that and just use the web page rendering engine and the Javascript engine. it would be nice and handy if there were just one standard and everyone stuck with that. It doesn't, but it can make a whole lot of sense to make an application work with a browser, and then have a browser running in kiosk mode which gives the impression that it's a native app. True there is some tweaking for each use case, but that's a whole lot less than having to produce multiple applications for multiple platforms. #Ultraedit lua macThey can use it 'in the cloud', through a browser on any modern tablet or phone, Pi, PC, Linux or Mac box, can run it as what appears to be a native app on ChromeBooks and Windows, it's even included within an actual native IDE app on Windows by simply presenting a browser-view panel as if just a normal editing panel.Īll that from just one code base. That's javascript but most users won't know and probably don't care. The company I work for has a visual programming app for educational use and for hobbyists. ![]() #Ultraedit lua softwareA means to get software out there and be more accessible to users no matter how they choose to use it, no matter what device they choose to use. I don't think anyone intends to supplant PHP or whatever else others are using, it's just a means to an end. It doesn't have to it only has to do the job it needs to do. I don't see JavaScript replacing most of what the internet apps are built with and that is PHP and MySQL. But that's a long way from my Window with a push button on it. ![]() Or could run as a graphical app from the command line when no Desktop has been installed. Though specified as 'no browser interface' I think it would be neat if it had that as well. I might also have a go at doing it in ScriptBasic because it might be better suited to the task. But it is nice to be able to launch compilations and things from within the editor and see the results. Can take or leave syntax highlighting, status bars and toolbars. I'm not fussed about Rich Text because I mostly edit code. Will it meet the requirements of this challenge ? No idea, but we'll see where I get to. #Ultraedit lua plusIt motivated me to go back and see if I could advance my Qt4 Designer plus Python effort which stalled after I got "Yay! Button pushed" printed on the Terminal I guess with the goal of seeing how that compares with doing it under ScriptBasic. I think people are being a bit picky over the challenge which is basically "produce a GUI editor which doesn't require a browser interface to it, which has the usual open, save, close, edit, font selection and stuff". ![]()
